Up to the present, the "Ovidiu Sincai" European School has already organized an edition during the year of study 2004-2005. However, there were signs that a national school is not sufficient for a country such as Romania, which has a larger surface (238,391 sq. km) and population (21.7 million inhabitants, July 2002) than any other country in South-East Europe. Moreover, there are regional differences that cannot be addressed properly and thoroughly within a single national school, thus living aside the concerns of local communities. For example, in Transylvania there are significant ethnic minorities that coexist with the majority population and that's why a seminar concerning multiethnic co-existence is needed. In Moldavia there are no significant ethnic minorities but there are a lot of people living in poverty and a lot of unemployment, that's why a seminar is needed in order to address these problems. In the southern region there are also problems related to poverty and unemployment but also a significant rural population with specific needs. To these one may add some different cultural influences in each of the three regions as a result of the historical processes of the past.
All the abovementioned factors justify the extension of the national project, as of the year 2005-2006, by adding three new regional schools.
As a result of organising some fund-reising events such as the European Evening, in December 2004, and the European Evening for Transylvania, in May 2005, the first edition of the European School of Transylvania took place in the period 2005-2006.
